Committed to preserving the lifestyle & spirit of Williamson Valley

WVCO Inc. is a community based volunteer organization [see ABOUT US] with the mission to develop a Williamson Valley Community Plan, see that it is adopted as part of the Yavapai County General Plan, and continue to serve as a voice for Williamson Valley residents. Williamson Valley residents, in several surveys, have clearly indicated that they want to preserve their rural residential lifestyle and the scenic values of their valley. During 2005-2006, volunteer residents of the WV Corridor Planning Steering Committee developed a Community Plan based on three surveys and community input at three public meetings. The Community Plan was submitted to several government agencies and interested organizations for comment, and their comments were incorporated in the final draft Community Plan [see COMMUNITY PLAN]. The proposal to adopt the Plan as a Community Plan amendment to the Yavapai County Plan was denied by the County Board of Supervisors on Monday, March 1, 2010.

While the Community Plan was rejected by Yavapai County, the Plan continues to document the desire of a majority of the residents to maintain the scenic, rural and residential character of the area. The Plan serves to provide a guide for government officials and community residents in making decisions about the future growth of the area.

Williamson Valley Postcard Survey

In order to ascertain, prior to the Board of Supervisors hearing,  community support for the Williamson Valley Community Plan and the three-lane improvement proposal for Williamson Valley road, WVCO sent out a postcard survey in the middle of February 2010. The postcard, which was sent to all property owners in the Community Plan area, asked recipients to check which of the following options they supported:
  • I support the Williamson Valley Community Plan which is being presented because it reflects the desire of citizens to maintain the scenic, rural and residential character of the Williamson Valley Corridor
  • I do not support the Williamson Valley Community Plan
  • I support the 3-lane improved road design proposed by the County in 2004
  • I support the 5-lane divided highway currently planned by the County
5107 postcards were sent out, 895 responses were received. The community residents supported the Community Plan and the 3-lane road option by about a 3 to 1 margin.
